Research: CONNECT
Project CONNECT Team: (L-R) Sarah Joelson, Gretchen Sloane, Viren D’Sa, Rebecca McLean, Sean Deoni, Shannon Sholds, Emily Mercer, Valerie Darcey.
Our CONNECT project is a partnership with Nestle Research and is focused on optimising infant nutrition. This is an international study, with our group working in tight collaboration with the Centre for Neuroimaging Sciences at King’s College London, UK.
As part of this project, we are recruiting soon-to-be and current mothers with infants less than 1 month of age who are either exclusively breast or formula feeding. For families using formula, infants will be randomised to receive 1 of 2 infant formulas. Whilst these are investigational formulas, they meet Codex (an international standard) for infant formula requirements. More information on Codex can be found here. They also meet global safety requirements. All formula will be provided free of charge.
The official study brochure and information sheet can be found here. Study Brochure
Infants will be followed for up to 2 years with assessments of physical growth (height and weight), nutritional status (blood nutrient analysis), physical activity (fitBit), cognitive performance (such as IQ, language development, etc.) and brain development (assessed by magnetic resonance imaging, MRI). For breastfeeding families, samples of mother’s breastmilk will also be collected.
All assessments are safe for you and your infant.
All participating families will be reimbursed for their time and travel, and receive study-related information related to their child.
